When you need this

You sell time or availability: appointments, vehicles, rooms, equipment, course places. A booking plugin covers the simple version. You need this when yours is not simple — different rules for different kinds of customer, minimum lengths, gaps between bookings, seasonal prices, deposits, or a sign-off before a booking counts. Or when bookings still arrive by phone and go into a spreadsheet, and someone spends the day retyping them.

What I actually build

Availability that cannot double-book. Two customers asking for the same slot in the same second get one booking and one clear “taken” — this is the hard part, and it is not solved by a nicer calendar.
Your rules: who can book what, for how long, at what price, with what deposit.
A confirmation that arrives. A confirmation in a spam folder is a booking you will still handle by phone, so getting the email delivered is part of the build, not an afterthought.
The staff side, which gets used far more than the customer side: today’s list, tomorrow’s list, blocking a slot in seconds, fixing a mistake without a developer.
Bookings passed on to your calendar and the tools you already use, so nothing is retyped.

Where this shows up in my work

A rental fleet with four contracts and one booking flow shows the rules side: day hire, seasonal, twelve-month and insurer-paid replacement all reach one catalogue and one enquiry path, and the customer picks the sentence that describes their situation instead of working out the contract. The availability side — slots, double-booking, confirmations — is not on a published case yet.
